From time to time I come across places, events, locations and even people that instantly inspire me to write a blog post and today was one of those times after a visit to The Steading, Gairloch!
Having grown up on the West Coast and only recently returned here to stay (for a while) I have seen many restaurants, cafes and bars come and go but the one thing that made The Steading really stand out to me today was its fresh, almost cosmopolitan look and feel, it almost reminded me of the kind of cafes I love to visit when in Edinburgh, Glasgow and even London.
The first thing that hit me, being a marketing and branding geek was the fact they had made an effort with their branding and actually had a logo (believe it or not a lot of businesses up this way still don’t) and had vibrant red signage outside the museum archway that stood out and looked inviting. Once inside the ‘wow’ factor continued with a nice fresh white look across the walls with plenty of colour splashes added in way of the seating and finishing touches, a nice cosy log burning stove, little sayings on the wall and creative use of the original feature stalls for comfy seating areas to enjoy light refreshments.
The main menu had plenty of options, all freshly prepared in the premises, including sharing platters, paninis, soups and nachos as well as a number of daily specials (the homemade thai potato wedges were awesome). And drink wise there was plenty on offer too including a wide selection of coffees from their ultra retro and funky coffee machine. They are also in the process of applying for a license to sell alcohol so can see them being the perfect venue in the summer time for some sharing platters and wine!
It will be great to see how this family run business develops throughout the year and hopefully it will remain as vibrant and retain the good buzz it had today. I can see lots of potential with The Steading for special events and occasions and has even inspired me to consider organising a Highland Social event up this way. Would make a perfect venue for wine and gin tasting events too so watch this space!
